Twenties = WHAT THE F*CK ARE WE SUPPOSE TO BE DOING??

Alexa, Play Dream big- Jazmine Sullivan

No one seems to know and we have no manual in which we are properly forewarned about these crucial years. When I was younger, a lot of important info that I could have used to respawn a couple times was not given to me.

I took all my L’s like a champ, So far.

I’m 26 now, 6 years into the sh*t show and I’m more lost than little Miss Red Riding Hood herself. I’m not going to go into dating because I think I may need to unplug my love life then try to plug it back in because it ain't been working right. It also wouldn’t be to fair for me to throw all that shade.

So here go a few random but very much needed tips for 20s in no particular order.

  1. Lease or Finance ? Really depending on your financial circumstance, look into which option will best fit your current lifestyle. Who doesn’t want a new car to stunt on our friends? Unless your living in luxury, take the hand me down car. It never that serious. I know it’s hard to hear but your main objective is to get from point A to point B. If I could do it over, I would have just kept my first car (even though I totaled it) and not financed. I would be saving about $500 a month. Now that you’re in Twenty something’s $$$ matters more now than ever before. Don't get me started on inflation.

2. Want to live with your best friend?: Think it through. My experience only lasted about 6 months but it was like full on Game Of Thrones up in that place. We went downhill fast. Usually at this age you’re still growing as person and this is when maturity needs to POP out and really do its thing because not everyone lives like you, not even your Best-friend. Don’t let dirty dishes be the demise of a friendship. Take the time to find out what works for both of you beforehand, talk about boundaries and make sure you nip any small issues in the butt right away. Don’t be afraid to speak your truth. That’s your bestie for a reason.

3. Transition from a Job to Career:  This is the one that’s feels a lot like you’re playing monopoly with your life. DO NOT PASS GO, do not collect $200. This can only happen to you and have you stagnant if you don't follow your dreams. Really pay attention to what makes you happiest in the work field. You do not want to be stuck somewhere unhappy just for money. Follow your heart.

4. College:  I’M JUST GONNA SAY WHAT EVERYONE IS THINKING, College isn’t for everyone. There, I said it. Please don’t beat yourself up if it’s not for you. Find your Passion and RUNNNN with it. Also, Graduating from college with no actual field experience, yea no one mentions THAT😕. Make sure your resume game (fiverr has resume pro's) is strong AF because most place's depending on your degree, experience is required. Unfortunately,  a job is not guaranteed 🤡 jokes on us.

5. Insurance: Your parents, who will be too excited, will let you know that your health insurance under them will expire after your 26 birthday and now you gotta pay your own sh*t andddd if you don’t do it within 30 days you will be walking around with no health insurance which is illegal apparently. #alllivesmatter

6. Credit cards: Do not close out your credit card account. It will f*ck up your credit score great deal.

7. Friends: Funfact- You’ll keep one handful and never knew others existed. You meet your real ones in college and the ones you had before, their loyalty will be tested the minute you move away. You’ll have an old bestie, a new bestie and a bestie who you haven’t seen in years but you know they’ll always answer your phone call.

8. Crying: How much you will cry?? You’ll probably cry as much as you did as a baby if not more. Girl, the water workssssss are insane ok? And it’s perfectly fine to cry. I recently just decided to make crying like a once a month thing you know, keep it expected. You need to be able to hold your composure and stick it in there with everything else that is due at the end of the Month, just let it all out at once. Blends in very well, trust me.

9. Fruits: are expensive as hell and last about a week tops. Lol but no seriously. It’s very concerning, put them in the freezer.

10. Trust yourself: Believe in EVERY and ANY aspirations, weird inventions or goals you've made for yourself when you were younger. That’s when you utilized your imagination the most and that’s where your dreams were conjured up. Follow that gut feeling with love, work, and dedication. You’ll realize how much it matters later.

11. Protect your energy: This is key… what you put into the world is what you get back. Keep your energy by keeping your peace. Don’t let anyone ever try to take this from you because it’s the only thing that is YOURS and makes you the bad ass everyone is envious of.

The scariest part of your Twenty something's  is not knowing just feeling.  It’s a lot of stuff we are never prepared for like Bills lol EW. You don’t think about having to pay bills until you're 26 (or even earlier for some) and really wished u saved that 20$ a week your Dad use to give to you as a child, man oh man... I would be floating in some major cash$$$. It was like a weekly thing too for years, I was rich as a kid but lost it all apparently lol .

Don’t quote me but it was in the news some years ago about a young lady who at a very young age, began to put 10$ in her account every day until 21. She had 1 Million Dollars at 21. Save your money. This girl has embarrassed us all lol

I know this rant may have been pointless to many but thats okay, I just wanted to let you know It’s okay to NOT know!!! 20s is the perfect time to try to figure it out. Listen to that! YOU'RE TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. It’s your puzzle, the pieces are in your hands! Only you know the answer to it. Don’t ever feel defeated, don’t ever compare your life to others because we all have our own separate stories.

This your trial and error stage of life, learn your lessons and grow from them.
